Teachers and teachings

As a yoga teacher and trainer, I am often asked about my lineage. Being a psychotherapist first led me to honor the many lessons I’ve learned from serving others. My time at the Kripalu Ashram in Massachusetts ritualized that honoring with each class, concluding with the expression Jai Bhagwan, meaning I recognize the teacher inside the student, and I’ve learned.

Mostly what I’ve learned from my students and clients is how to meet them, access the healthy Spirit of Guidance within them and support Its expression. Each formal teacher I’ve had has demonstrated this toward me, or I moved on. Integrating all the lessons keeps my toolbox full of creative possibilities to share with those who are interested.

How do you learn best? Who are you teaching? Ki to Happiness offers you all Jai Bhagwan, I thank you for all I learn from you.

Per Misson

As Bob continues to heal from his stroke, he experiences discouragement as well as triumph. I support him in the ways that I am able. My primary mission continues.

While he was in the hospital, his friend recommended the book I’m reading. The Goddess Pose gives permission for me to keep doing that. I’m glad I didn’t wait until I got the book and read 230 pages.

What’s your mission? How are you handling the issues that threaten it? Ki to Happiness gives permission by living her mission.

Vibhuti

Sacred ash from Satya Sai Baba known as vibhuti is all that remains from our robbery years ago. I forgot about that until reading in The Goddess Pose about others who have been blessed with its miraculous appearance. One miraculous remembrance brings up another.

I received my little packet of vibhuti from the woman who drafted me into the service of teaching yoga. I stashed it away in my travel wallet. It was taken along by thieves with other valuables. Nothing physical explains the vibhuti reappearing in my other wallet.

What does your mind do with this story? Do you try to explain it away? Ki to Happiness shares one little miracle story in hope of igniting your remembrance of others…

My altar is full of flowers, cards, gifts and candles. My heart is full of family and friends, clients and students’ wishes. My inner and outer world reflect each other.

How does your outer reflect your inner reality? What are you full of? Ki to Happiness gratefully shares the afterglow from a miraculous celebration with all of you.

Platinum

My birthday arrives under foggy conditions. Each street light illuminates the mystical veil between Earth and Sky. I can almost touch it.

I spoke with my mother, the giver of my birth, yesterday. I told her that I’m aware of the fact that I did Not arrive alone 61 years ago. She was there and she remembers. In doing so we touched the mystical veil between us.

Can you feel the mystical veil? Does it separate you from all else or connect you? Ki to Happiness lives the Platinum path of both.

Sweet 60

This is the last day that I am 60. Some call the birthday on which we turn the age of the day of our birth Golden. Since I turn 61 and was born in 1961, I’m thinking of calling it Platinum.

In these years I’ve learned to be kind to myself. I’ve come to understand me. I’ve grown patient with my foibles. I have that to extend to you, dear readers.

What do you extend to others? What would you like to? Ki to Happiness offers your foibles sweet, kind, patient understanding.

Indra Devi

Reading The Goddess Pose reinforces my “yoga path”. I was a kid when my mom introduced me to yoga. My years dancing kept the passion of full embodiment alive. I only felt qualified to teach after I spent time in India with an indigenous teacher. True for Indra Devi also.

She broke the tradition of Indian male teachers instructing Indian men for all of us. We non-Indian female yoga teachers have her to thank. In her stead, may we keep that passion alive.

How fully embodied are you as you read this? What keeps your passion alive? Ki to Happiness thanks Indra Devi and all the teachers who’ve opened the path before us.

Delete delete

Working on the fourth draft of my manuscript brought up a lot of frustration. At first I felt like deleting one word, then one sentence, then paragraphs until the whole project felt futile. Instead of deleting the entire 30 years of effort, and falling silent, I expressed myself.

In my private journal writing, I let it all out. I returned to the freedom of expression without rules or points of view. I reconnected with my original impulse. I may never publish beyond here, yet I may satisfy my 7 year old self’s yearning to write and encourage others to do the same.

Without rules what might you like to express? What would satisfy your inner 7 year old self’s yearning? Ki to Happiness refuses to delete her truth, her passions or her responsibility to realize her dreams.

ReUnion

The forces of division must feel the edge slipping. It seems that there is a desperate grasp for control. We’ve all lived with this for a long time. Efforts toward reuniting will be necessary as we move forward.

Internal efforts of healing the division within may be to best place to begin. Containing the different aspects of oneself and choosing how to engage with the world results in feedback. Taking the feedback under consideration, we may adjust our way of engaging.

What feedback have you been receiving lately? What adjustment is necessary for you to engage me in a way that might result in the feedback you truly desire? Ki to Happiness engages with yoga offerings toward Union and reUnion.

Bye Thay

Our world released the great teacher Thich Nhat Hanh on 1/22/22. Those who love him know him as Thay. This humble Light Bringer illuminated our consciousness, showing us the way of compassion and forgiveness.

In his physical absence, he left behind many who followed him closely as well as lots of books and poetry. His energy is available to all to join in through conscious breathing, walking and meditation. I feel him in silence.

What is your experience of the great teacher? Can you take a moment of silence and feel his energy with you now? Ki to Happiness honors Thay as she says goodbye and thank you.
