Three years

Ki to Happiness celebrates its 3 year anniversary. Of course I had no idea what I was getting into when I started. I could not have imagined the pandemic or how this daily blog post might serve.

I think of others who kept silent throughout the last 3 years, who didn’t try to offer counsel or encouragement, and instead left us alone to find our own way. I’m glad I had connection to a source of inspiration, bubbling up, like a fountain. It has renewed me, along with those who open up to read these few words.

What bubbled up in you three years ago? Does it continue to support you and those you serve? Ki to Happiness loves daily connection to Source and sharing it with You.

Feeling the moon

I got up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. No loud neighbors or playful cats disturbed me. Yet, I awakened completely and look and around.

I saw our new home and work space illuminated by the waxing moon. The cats and I were feeling it. We are in synch with nature.

How in synch with nature are you? Do you feel this moon already? Ki to Happiness will salute both the sun and the moon daily until full sleep returns.

Mail call

This morning I will go to a new bank branch. I received a gift check in the mail yesterday to feather our new nest. Thanks, Mom.

When the pandemic closed down my bank branch, I felt a desperate need in my life for its reopening which now I have moved away from. We informed our mail carrier of our new address personally, after he spent delivering our mail in University District for over 20 years. Mom’s continued love and support continues, whatever my address or bank branch.

What is continuous in your life? What did you once cling to which now you easily release? Ki to Happiness releases those things that have served their purpose to embrace all that continues to serve.

Long-term student’s return

Sundays at the Hatha Yoga Center have been something of an institution. We are approaching HYC’s 45th anniversary of offering traditional classes daily. Many have attended Sunday classes, like they may have church.

We were in the midst of the 9 AM class when a long-term student rode up on her bike. Seeing her smiling face brought us all tremendous joy at our reunion. I gave her a private tour and settled her in as she planned to stay through the 10:30 class and our first community gathering which immediately followed.

Do you feel valued in your communities? Are you aware how much your simple presence contributes to each group you participate in? Ki to Happiness values each and every Hatha Yoga Center community member.

One week

This is our one week anniversary of residing in our new space. As we continue to adjust to the new sounds and the surrounding area, we settle in. A few needs arise which we easily meet.

Bruises and scratches from the intensity of the move heal. Students are finding their way to our new location as many continue with us on our Facebook Hatha Yoga Center live streaming group page with some tech glitches. Overall, the yoga practice continues to give us perspective as it enables us to speed our wings and fly a bit above addresses, injuries and complications.

How was your week? What practices help you fly above it all for a renewed perspective? Ki to Happiness flies with Yogic breathing, meditation, postures, and lifestyle.

Firsts

We got our first mail delivery. I shopped at our new grocery store for the first time for more than just an item or two. I made a small tray with treats to share with our veterinarians as they came for our four-year-olds’ first examination here which turned into our first small party.

I celebrate each small accomplishment even as we continue letting go of the last place and all associated with it. I no longer feel like I am a trapeze artist midair between one trapeze and the next, nor like I’ve just escaped a burning building with my few treasures (cats). Instead, I feel the first light of day on my yoga practice here with my altar in the spot it may remain for years.

What’s new? What remains from the past even in the midst of newness? Ki to Happiness thanks the past for these practices which remain in this new day, new place, new chapter.

Last box

After teaching my morning class and conducting one private session, I took some time to rest. Refreshed, I got up to unpack another box. It was the first one I packed when we learned we’d be moving, although we didn’t know where or when.

With the books on a shelf and the incense burning, I carried the box out to be recycled with the others. As I returned, I looked around for another box to unpack and only then realized there was none. I unpacked the last box and celebrated quietly as we smelled the first pot of beans cooking and resumed watching our favorite alternative news.

After the climax, how comfortable are you with the anti-climax? In what way can you best celebrate what you have accomplished?Ki to Happiness continues practicing before during and after climaxes and celebrates with simple pleasures.

Tiny room

Yoga practice continues to support us in this move. The stabilizing breath focus while physically executing challenging postures brings me present often to the inspiration from my Higher Self. This resulted in my following guidance to shift my bed into my walk in closet.

I slept well in my tiny room, safely away from the curious cats. They have been healing from the trauma of moving as they explore at night their new surroundings. With this new arrangement, they can follow their higher guidance as I follow mine.

What inspiration do you receive in your yoga practice? Can you act on it? Ki to Happiness acts on the inspiration in order to communicate to my Higher Self “I’m listening”.

Pine Hurst

With all the stored material removed from our new studio, I taught my 2nd class here. Students arrived and set up their double mats on the bamboo floor. We practiced together inside until shifting out onto our deck to use the railing as a barre.

We are all delighted to practice under the pine trees. Our district is called Pinehurst, which begged up the meaning of the word, hurst. Long-term student and community member shared with me that she discovered it means pine woods, which describes our view from the barre.

What is the view from your practice space? Does it inspire you? Ki to Happiness holds the view that all safe and clean practice spaces are sacred.

Blessed Rain

Our six day heat wave has ended. We moved during each of the blistering days into our new space which has no air conditioning. After unpacking another box or six, I took my fresh cantaloupe chunks out on our deck for a lunch break.

First I smelled it, then I heard the wind through the pines, then the first raindrop. Our first day with Hatha Yoga Center classes received such a blessing. We were even inspired to take our evening class out onto the deck to use the railing as a barre since ours hasn’t yet been reinstalled indoors.

Do you receive the rain as a blessing or is someone raining on your parade? In times of newness, can you spontaneously improvise with what you’ve got? Ki to Happiness receives the blessed rain like the parched earth and is inspired.
