Leap Day

This extra day on our calendar invites us to take a bold leap forward. The long winter may have given us just the right reflection, so that we know exactly the direction for us to Leap. Bolstering one’s courage may be necessary.

As you open to the energy of the day, you might notice your own particular impulse. There may be dreams that have been percolating through the winter that give you a sense of a small step you can take in the direction of your future. Breaking down a big leap into doable approximations forward may be most prudent.

In which direction are you drawn to leap? What small step can you take toward that impulse? Ki to Happiness looks before she leaps.

Kittens and Calves

Instead of doing Cats and Cows, I’ve needed to modify that basic yoga practice by standing on my knees and forearms. I call the simple activity of spinal flexion and extension from that foundation as Kittens and Calves. Renaming it gives me a chance to abstain from any sense that what I am doing doesn’t count.

Every effort on the spiritual path counts. One step I take toward the Great One results in 1000 steps being made by the One in my direction to support and encourage my efforts. Uplifting my attitude translates into greater healing potential and patience.

What might you need to rename? What small step can you make in the direction of the One? Ki to Happiness encourages you to make any effort.

No snow

We’ve had terrible weather predictions. No snow has come to pass. Cold and clear, all is well here.

So often there are dire warnings of things that never occur. Our nervous systems can get jacked up in response. It’s so important for us to take a moment and feel the safety around us, calming our nervous systems, and giving thanks for our many blessings.

How safe to you feel right where you are right now? Can you express some gratitude for your blessings? Ki to Happiness is safe and thankful.

Turn Around

In each of our lives, all kinds of challenges occur. The Yoga Sutras list sickness, light mindedness, failure to reach a stage of meditation or hold it once reached and inertia among the many hindrances from eons ago.The list hasn’t changed much.

The question is how quickly we can turn that energy around. The Yoga Sutras suggest we “throw the weight on the other side”. By that what is intended is for us to resume meditation, which leads us to gratitude through our intention.

How quickly and gracefully can you turn your energy around? Have your practices in meditation developed enough of a groove for you to rely on? Ki to Happiness gets in the groove of gratitude thanks to yoga practice.

Progress while Resting

As I concluded, teaching my second class yesterday, I looked out the window and saw one of our helpers. He was ready to get on the job of installing our new flooring in the foyer. After we convened with Bob and solidified our plan, I rested.

I got up from my rest and found the job all but complete, with Bob cleaning up! I helped a bit, and we took off for our walk, seeing someone had cleared our sidewalk and curb. With this progress while resting, I feel encouraged to rest some more.

Can you let go and let others help? How can you best thank those who pitch in? Ki to Happiness thanks all of our helpers, seen and unseen.

Shifting schedules

Having resumed my full schedule with Hatha Yoga Center I have had to shift my other appointments. Working privately with my clients and seeing my doctor require adaptability. So far, i’ve been able to work it all out.

I feel nervous with conflicting priorities. Slowing down, taking one step at a time, breathing and following Guidance, the nervousness yields. In gratitude, I follow the Leader as the path appears.

How do you handle your conflicting priorities? Can you slow down and ask for what you need? Ki to Happiness follows the Leader of her Soul.

Serious Determination

The yoga path is open to all. The sutras underpinning the path indicate that those with serious determination progress best. The Sanskrit term for that is shraddha.

Steady effort with serious determination yields consistent rewards. I witnessed such rewards in my students who have persevered in their practice despite my 2 months of absence from teaching some of my classes. I also experienced my own progress with increased range of motion of my wrist after this first week of resuming my full schedule.

How serious is your determination to progress on the yoga path? What can help you stay steady and consistent? Ki to Happiness utilizes shraddha with daily practice through all of life’s hindrances.

Wanting what you have

This morning, I have a renewed sense of appreciation for what I have. Returning to my full schedule, I have a different perspective. Hatha Yoga Center has supported me during the last two months enough so I could heal and resume my duties.

I look with fresh eyes at our cats, my marriage, the students, my clients and at our son’s posts. The healing of my wrist projected outward offers healing of my heart which I didn’t even realize was possible. Instead of having what I want, I am aware that I want what I have.

How fresh are your eyes? What is necessary in order for you to appreciate what you have? Ki to Happiness thanks you for reading these words and contemplating their meaning as applies to your life.

Don’t Help

Serving my clients before and after teaching my morning class kept me focused. During that time our very handyman came back to his job installing new flooring in our galley kitchen. I finished my work, grabbed my lunch and took a rest as he continued.

I got back up and had my tea, watching him finish. He jokingly made it clear to me that watching results in charging 1 1/2 times the usual amount whereas helping would cost double. We laughed about it as I did the hardest thing for me, abstaining from “helping”.

What’s the hardest thing for you? When your help is not helpful, how easily can you let it go? Ki to Happiness sometimes helps best by not helping.
