Health and Independence

Mom’s health is improving so she can be more independent. She was discharged yesterday from her visiting nurse and will also finalize her occupational therapy next time. In celebration, she experimented with a safe drive yesterday, her home healthcare worker in the backseat with me riding shotgun.

Living out here in the country requires her ability to drive. She did well, no problems, no confusion. I embrace my health and independence as I witness her progress.

What does your independence require? Isn’t health the top of your list? Ki to Happiness requires yoga practice to support health and independence.

Almost Full

The upcoming full moon invites us to plant seeds. We prepare for that by sorting through all that has come to light in the eclipse portal last month. Releasing fear, which the Yoga Sutras refer to as “the darkness of unwisdom”, seeds of safety and love germinate.

As I companion my mother through her medical needs, I am careful to transmute any “unwisdom” immediately. I intend to materialize this effort by planting seeds for mom to view through her healing process. Perhaps some periwinkle, which is hearty and pink will do well.

What fear would you like to transmute? Can you gather seeds of safety, health and love to plant for the Pink full moon? Ki to Happiness sorts through seeds to plant with the moon.

Palm Sunday

As my mom continues to get better, she is continuing to avoid gatherings of people. She had her first outing yesterday. We went to her hair salon after all others were gone.

Today, we’ll have our own Palm Sunday service at home. She is staying away from church and its crowds on this significant day. We are welcoming individual friends in to visit, no donkey required.

Is this a significant day of spiritual observation for you? Does it require donkeys or palm trees? Ki to Happiness observes each day as a spiritual opportunity to align with the Higher Self at home.

Baby steps

It is a pleasure to witness mom‘s baby steps returning to towards health and independence. When one of her caregivers needed to leave early yesterday, she was stable enough to leave her alone in her house for the first time in 3 weeks. Today she’ll have her first outing since being hospitalized March 4th.

There are also challenges that arise in this process for all involved. My yoga practice helps me remain balanced as I witness them. I’m taking my own baby steps towards responding with loving compassion when issues present themselves.

What baby steps are you taking to better yourself? What helps you face your challenges? Ki to Happiness betters herself with yoga, witnessing progress and challenges with balance and intention.

Cold Back

The heat dome took us to 85°, which collided with the cold front. The drop in temperature heralded the storm at nightfall. Thunder, lightening, rain, hail and gusts ensued.

With mom safely tucked in her bed and her home healthcare workers attending to her, my visiting friend and I came down to my yurt to behold the spectacle of nature. We sat with the lights off to experience the sudden lightning bolts and felt the powerful storm. This morning, the back of the storm receded from my river view, with Franklin stove warming my practice as its 32 degrees outside.

Can you practice in the heat just as well as in the cold? Are you hearty enough to withstand the fluctuating storms of life? Ki to Happiness witnesses the power of nature, inside and out.

Family Time

My day begins in gratitude for one more trip to visit my family of origin. Our time together is precious as my brother returns today to his home in St. Louis. He has done an excellent job of caring for my mother since she left the hospital 12 days ago and is on the mend.

Staying in my yurt, I follow the well worn patterns established here over the many years. Early awakening ensures time for my yoga practices which help me stay centered, healthy, and well balanced. Having done so, I look forward to relieving myself brother’s “Watch” as he refers to it, especially as the home health care team kicks in.

What helps you stay centered for family time? Have you established healthy patterns to stabilize your body mind spirit for integration and regulation? Ki to Happiness holds her head high and breathes freely and deeply, staying connected to the guidance and direction of the Higher Self in all times.

Spot Saved

Considering the horror stories of TSA during the present partial shut down of our government, I waltzed through with my appointment with Spot Saver even though I arrived a little late. No problem. No long lines anyway otherwise, either.

The experience reminds me of the need to check things out for oneself. Often the story told by others is slanted, skewed or otherwise selling us a particular angle. Being from the Show Me State, my empiricism tells me a different story, grounded in my experience of reality.

Are you an empiricist? Does your experience match the story others tell? Ki to Happiness listens to others, takes heed, then proceeds to trust her own sense of reality.

Spot Saver

As I prepare to travel, we are having another partial shut down, which makes TSA problematic. One of my students informed me of the SeaTac option to apply with spot saver for an interview. When all checks out right, they will usher me in.

I learn a great deal from my students and my clients. Sometimes the lessons are practical like this situation. Most often, we learn together how to become better, more compassionate, as we sift through the presenting material to integrate body mind and spirit.

What do you learn from those you serve? Practical knowledge or more abstract? Ki to Happiness grows right along with those who grow.

Spring Planting

As our early daffodils start to put their heads down, I planted some bulbs for summer blooming. I do so with every intention of enjoying their blooms and sharing their beauty with our neighbors, students, and clients. In this way, I look forward to returning to tend to them after my upcoming trip to see my mother.

The trip will have its challenges during the TSA shut down, the transitional weather, including tornadoes, snow, hail, and highs in the 80s and my mom’s multiple medical issues. My brother has helped me adjust my expectations and reinforce my healthy boundaries as he’s been through so much being on the first “watch” since she got home from the hospital. My yoga practice is easy to pack and free to choose breath, posture and intention wherever I go, including as I take the second “watch”.

What intentions are you planting now for your summer? If traveling, what’s free and easy to pack? Ki to Happiness travels Light and follows the Light, looking towards Summer Blooms.

Global Meditations

I’ve participated in global peace meditations, the last couple of days. There’s another one available today, invoking the element of water. I love plugging into others around the world who similarly desire peace, and are willing to join together at a certain time wherever we are.

Yesterday‘s experience at 4 PM felt like a love fest. I sat in a sunny spot with my cat, looking out at the blue sky before closing my eyes and sensing peace within. Knowing that others around the world were with us intentionally, I basked in the web of interconnection hugging the planet.

Are you aware that somewhere around the planet Someone is always meditating for peace? Are you willing join this network? Ki to Happiness rests in the peace of knowing that peaceful meditations are constantly happening somewhere always.
