Strawberry Moon

This full moon rises pink at sunset. It’s called a strawberry moon as the fruit ripen at this time of year. Even the dawn’s early light appeared with pink wispy clouds in the sky.

All the efforts and intentions of last month come to fruition. It gives us a chance to take a look at our progress. It also reveals what continues to need more attention.

What has ripened for you? Is there anything that could use a little bit more pinking? Ki to Happiness is in the pink of health.

Power Outage

This morning, I awaken into a dark world. That was my first clue that we lost power in the night- no porch light. I lit candles and used my prepared, hot water from last night to begin my yoga practices after feeding our cats. Then I reported our outage to Seattle City Lights, seeing 110 customers along with me.

In my practice, there was no power outage. Instead, I felt the Higher Power surging within me, healing me, and bringing me full confidence that all will be well. Our classes will continue safely, running on both power sources as soon as possible.

How confident are you that all will be well? What power can you always access? Ki to Happiness is confident that the Higher Power will always be accessible and all will be well.

Heat Wave

As we experience the first heat wave this year, we are staying cool at the Hatha Yoga Center with plenty of fans. Our windows are wide open, letting in the cool morning air right now. Classes will be safe as we adapt our offerings to the present needs.

Bob and I planned on going to the park yesterday, but changed our plans to stay cool. We took a little bit of sunshine on our deck with a fan on us as we drank pineapple smoothies for lunch. The cats laid on the bare floor in front of fans and exposed their bellies, showing us a different cat pose.

How do you adapt your practices in the heat? What can you change about yourself to stay calm and cool? Ki to Happiness tries the new cat pose and practices crow beak breathing, in and out of the mouth.

Fermata Showcase

We attended a musical concert last night. The Senior Showcase of the UW acapella group, Fermata, gave us pause to appreciate their sounds, progress and teamwork. The final encore highlighted the talent of one of our community members.

Fermata is a musical term meaning to pause or hold a note longer than its written duration. The group demonstrated this in sustaining sounds for the audience to feel into the emotion of each piece. “How it Feels to be Alive” brought tears to our eyes as we paused with the performers to feel all the feels.

How does it feel for you to be alive? Can you pause long enough to allow for all the feels? Ki to Happiness pauses, feels and heals.

New Signs

Our new signs have arrived! They signal changes here at the Hatha Yoga Center. Overall, I’m singing one of my favorite mantras about it: “Things are getting better“.

I’ve been singing that to my cats. They seem to know what I mean. When I first started using that mantra, it brought back hope to my heart.

What brings hope back to your heart? Can you sing about it? Ki to Happiness practices yoga and sings hope alive.

D Day

My father in law was there, in Normandy, on 6/6/44 doing his part in the largest seaborne invasion in history. If he wasn’t, maybe Bob would never have been born and my life would be vastly different. I honor him today by celebrating the precious moments in my marriage.

Bob reports that his dad had severe shell shock from his time of military service. Still, he was a great dad and father in law, among his other attributes. May all efforts today build on those who’ve come before us, fighting the good fights for freedom, peace and truth.

What is your relationship to D Day? How will you honor those who’ve served for your opportunities? Ki to Happiness fights on, serving as an instrument of peace, truth and freedom.

Stay grounded

I understand the sun has been exploding in our general direction, blasting our planet with intense and potentially disruptive energies. While this is cyclic, and even predicted, it still messes with electronics, and communication, as well as resulting in the beautiful aurora borealis.

The recommendation for people at this time is to stay grounded. yoga, walking in nature, spending time with animals, drinking water, and eating healthy and nutritious food all will help. It also helps to not take any of the challenges that are coming your way personally right now, if not always.

Have you been having electronic snafus? Any issues with communication? Ki to Happiness stays grounded with all available tools.

Exhalted State

Living my life yesterday, I became aware of sublime gratitude for my simple details. The cats whiskers, the juncos clicking the bird greetings, the tender flower petal wilting in their vases all brought me to the edge of tears. The feeling lingered, and engulfed my service with clients, and students, as well as neighbors and friends.

Nothing special happened. Pure joy, bliss, ecstasy arose of its own accord. Fortunately, I paused to witness and allow it to continue without interference.

Are you more familiar with exhaustion than exaltation? What rest do you need so that you can support the uprising of joy from within? Ki to Happiness, familiar with exhaustion, studies the unfamiliar exaltation that comes from enough rest and time to pause.

The Virus of Fear

One of our students shared a scary story with me yesterday. I noticed it infected me with a bit of the virus of fear. In observing that, I removed myself briefly to find safety in reality.

I returned free from fear, full of safety and continued with what I was doing. I reframed her story to include her very real happy ending. I chose to focus on that instead of her delivery which triggered my initial reaction.

Where do you find safety? Can you quarantine yourself at times of fear so you don’t spread that virus? Ki to Happiness witnesses fear reactions and responds by sequestering until safe.

Brother Man

On Sundays, I talk to my brother. We started doing so as our parents aged and required more attention. Now that dad’s been gone for over two years, mom is doing great, so we simply catch up.

He is on top of his world, which brings me great joy. I no longer worry about him and his choices as I see he is content. Who knew that these would be the best years for us: golden memories, abundant health and plenty cats to accompany our yoga practices.

Are these your best years? With whom do you share? Ki to Happiness thanks yoga for these best years for my whole family.
