Celebrating Chris

Today is Chris List’s 60th birthday. She is Hatha Yoga Center’s manager and teaches the Friday 5:30 class. She’s been with us since her participation in our yoga teacher training program, nearly 20 years now.

We are also blessed to continue to have her in our community and provide these services for us. We celebrate her even as she is taking some time elsewhere for the holidays and her significant birthday. Your comments, memories and greeting are welcome here to share with her when she returns.

Who upholds your community? What’s the best way to celebrate them? Ki to Happiness celebrates by sharing that HYC continues to thrive with the support of Chris and welcomes your comments for her here.

Boxing Day

20 years ago today my parents had their nuptials blessed at their church by a priest. Bob and I attended the blessing. It satisfied mom’s desire, having wedded with a justice of the peace initially.

A few months later, Bob’s mother remarried. We celebrated these romances and now cherish the memories. I’ll remember with my mom today, sole survivor of our elders.

What memories will you box up today? Which are good to share with others? Ki to Happiness shares from the bounty of blessings our elders have bestowed upon us.

Merry Christmas

As we observe today’s holiday, Hatha Yoga Center has a day off. The cats heard Santa’s sleigh early, and made sure I got up, too. After morning practices, we will enjoy the simple pleasures of a quiet day, healthy food, and our neighborhood walk.

Voting for the posture of the year is welcome to continue at a distance. Each person is welcome to five votes, to be used as you choose, either all on one posture or spread out as you desire. Voting continues until New Year’s Eve.

How will you spend today’s holiday? What practices will help make sure it is peaceful and bright? Ki to Happiness makes every day a holy day with yoga practice.

Christmas Eve

This morning at 10 we have our Christmas Eve class. We will resume our regular schedule of teaching on Friday morning at 10. Remote voting for Posture of the Year 2026 is available for our active community members.

So far, the voting booth has been quite active. With tea and treats after, some have asked about the exit polls. I abstain from prognostication and speculation as I refill ginger tea thermoses and translate remote votes into the ballot box confidentiality.

How would you like to posture yourself for the upcoming year? Can you imagine what yoga posture would help you with that? Ki to Happiness grounds the peace discovered in meditation in all circumstances to the best of her present ability.

Full Schedule

This is our last day with our full schedule before a little bit of a holiday break. I look forward to plenty of students attending both of our classes and participating in our community vote for posture of the year. We will keep the voting booth open with fresh tea and treats for all who want to participate.

Replenishing the refreshments, keeping the post it note ballots available and the ballot box private, I’m reminded of my maternal grandmother work the polls in her district. I celebrate her, democracy, and the holidays at the same time. Full heart and full schedule, I center myself with the ritual of yoga practice.

How’s your schedule at this holiday time? Did you keep time and space for your centering practices? Ki to Happiness shares from her fullness.

Yuletide

Welcome winter! Hatha Yoga Center celebrates by honoring the old traditions of hanging evergreens, lighting candles and feasting. We prepared well and invite all to join.

We also have our new tradition of beginning to vote for the posture of the year for the new year. The last few nominations were added in classes yesterday. You are welcome to vote in person or at a distance here.

What old traditions will you honor? What new traditions have you added? Ki to Happiness honors the old and refreshes with the new.

New Moon of Manifestation

This new moon occurs at the time of the winter solstice portal. It invites us to find the light in the darkest hour and focus on it and what we’d like to manifest. Beginning tomorrow, the light begins its return to the northern hemisphere and with it, our intentions grow.

Those who are busy preparing for holiday celebrations may do well to take a moment and pause. Releasing fears and frustrations, in a state of peaceful safety, we may find that light within to illuminate our deepest desires. Choosing to remain safe and focused, the light may shine the way forward so in 6 months we will be blessed with the manifestation our heart truly desires.

What would you love to see manifest in six months? Can you pause during the hustle and bustle of the season to align with that intention? Ki to Happiness envisions peace and prosperity for our community.

20 Minutes

As Bob and I took our walk in between squalls, we talked about our desires regarding the upcoming holidays. We both look forward to a little time off. As if the universe heard our wishes, Bob took the night off as no students arrived on time for his class and he chose to watch the Seahawks game.

I laid down after our walk and imagined it as part of a two week retreat with all the comforts of home. 20 minutes later, I felt refreshed enough to practice yoga as I would on any personal retreat. As the game concluded, I remained on my retreat with a good book, some warm oatnog and my cats.

What are your desires for this Holiday season? Can you let yourself align with those desires now? Ki to Happiness wishes on the New Moon and the Universe grants our wishes in no time.

Water and Power

As I see some of the news about our general area, the atmospheric rivers have caused upheaval. Our neighbors, students and clients are all safe. We proceed with regular schedules and activities, even as others farther away have needed to evacuate, or are without power or water.

We are just outside the designated area to be on the look out for discoloration from the faucets. Feeling safe during these storms reminds me of my ability to choose peace amidst chaos. I’m grateful for all the practice my life’s challenges have offered me so I may extend this safety to those in need.

Can you find peace amidst chaos? What challenges have given you the skill to choose that peace within? Ki to Happiness extends peace and safety from within to those without.
