Right at Home

I walked around the corner to Right at Home yesterday with my good friend as we inquired about their home healthcare services for her beloved. The friendly, well informed staff welcomed us in. We were able to ask good questions and get immediate answers to possibly employing them in the future.

My dad needed such services. After his stroke, my mom couldn’t handle his needs on her own. She knew better than to try to lift him and tend to his every need, especially while he was still in denial about the consequences of his medical circumstances.

When caring for others can you also care for yourself? What services or assistance might be a valuable resource? Ki to Happiness collects resources that may never be necessary in recognition of human limitations.

Cute Boy

After the last treats were enjoyed for Bob’s birthday gathering, we went outside for a small walk and some fresh air as is our habit. He went first, and I joined him after cleaning up one more item in the kitchen. As I approached him, he appeared to me as a cute boy.

With my eyes filled with joy and appreciation for him, 77 years of life appeared as like he was just 6. His fresh haircut and new white T-shirt perhaps contributed. What I saw was the good boy he always was and meant to be.

When your eyes are filled with joy, how do things look? When they don’t look that way, what can you do to find your joy? Ki to Happiness looks through the eyes of love and beholds tender innocence.

Bob’s 77th

Today is my husband‘s 77th birthday. As the founder of the Hatha Yoga Center in 1977, he has chosen to celebrate by persevering in teaching his classes. In between yesterday‘s classes and following tonight’s 5:30, we will honor him with gathering socially,

In addition to flowers, gifts, cards, and special treats, yesterday we also took a bike ride with his oldest friend. At Golden Gardens, we luxuriated in the peak of summer heat, with our feet in the sand and our backs against the boulders. For just a moment, I saw him as the man I met almost 30 years ago and grew to know, sharing our lives with one another.

How would you celebrate turning 77? What have you consistently done since 1977? Ki to Happiness is inspired to consistently continue practicing and teaching yoga so I can celebrate when I’m 77 like Bob Smith.

Birthday Festivities

We got together with Bob’s extended family to celebrate birthdays. He is the oldest of them at 77 tomorrow, and our youngest member, Nora, turns two in a week. Woodland Park zoo on the hot summer day was a perfect location for our celebration.

We left the studio in the capable hands of our manager, Chris List. She taught both of my classes and then proceeded to fix my email issue. She may join us today for our community gathering in honor of Bob’s birthday following his classes.

What’s the best celebration for ages 2 to 77? In whose hand can you leave your responsibilities in order to celebrate? Ki to Happiness surrenders the reins of Hatha Yoga Center into Chris List’s hands when necessary.

Black Moon in Virgo

Today’s new moon in Virgo invites us to plant seeds for the future. Having experienced a beautiful summer so far, we may have an awareness of those desires we have yet to fulfill. Releasing struggles, challenges, injuries, and anything else, we can envision peaceful progress and healthy fulfillment.

We live in a vibrational universe in which we may manifest our intentions through a willingness to speak them out loud. Perseverant actions based on higher guidance will direct us to our goals. Health, wealth, creativity, balance, truth, insight, and connection with the Highest are my intentions for myself and all my relations.

Can you imagine the fulfillment of your truest desires? Are you willing to speak those desires out loud? Ki to Happiness sets intentions with voice, sending positive vibrations outward for manifestation.

Security’s Prayer

The Hatha Yoga Center faces QFC’s office. Its glass door gives us a view of what’s going on behind the scenes. This morning, I witnessed one of the security guards praying as I have before.

I joined him from here, as I told him I did last time I witnessed his ritual. We both pray daily-him, 5x as is the Muslim tradition and me, repeatedly as needed. Together, we bridge the street and the traditions, praying for safety and guidance from the One in All.

What is your prayer this morning? Do you pray alone or with others? Ki to Happiness prays with all who pray, today and everyday, with those who are seen and unseen.

Tech Challenge

I received an alarming email with time sensitive material requiring a digital signature. I faced the issue with my good posture and conscious breathing as I did my best to scan the QR code and open the document. It wouldn’t open so I reached out to get some help from my administrative assistant, as well as the potential originator of the need for said document.

After calling, emailing, and texting them, I prayed to Saint Isidore de Seville, the patron saint of all things technical which helped me let go of the issue. I shifted my focus onto preparation for my evening classes, ever grateful for yoga. My nervous system regulated itself easily as I felt the grace of the Helpers, reminding me that this is new for me and that all will be well in right timing.

What helps you regulate your nervous system? Can you give yourself grace when facing new challenges? Ki to Happiness applies yogic awareness to tech challenges.

Yoga means Union

As a yoga teacher, I often remind my students and trainees that the meaning of yoga is union. There are lots of interpretations of what that means. Broadly, it means to unite with the One in All.

During this time of great social unrest and division, there are those who would like to interpret my actions and belief systems as belonging to one or another different camp. In the last few days I’ve been accused of belonging to this or that party. I like to party with the One in All, on and off the Yoga mat, in my meditations, and I pray we all find a way to Peace.

Have you ever met someone who believes exactly what you do? How do you deal with others who have different beliefs? Ki to Happiness sees the One shining forth in myriad guises like is stated in the Shvetashvatara Upanishad.

Nurse Practitioner

My mom‘s cardiologist is retiring. He has companion my mother through several decades of heart issues. Next she will work with a nurse practitioner, as is becoming more common in the USA medical system.

Mom has taken it well, has expected it for quite some time, and looks forward to meeting a new helper. I appreciate her openness and adaptability. As a doctor of Healtheology, I support other’s choices about healing and health whether they align with mine.

Have you worked with nurse practitioners? Are you able to find your way through the USA medical system? Ki to Happiness takes responsibility for her health as supports others in doing the same.

Off and On

As Bob teaches his classes on Sunday, I have a day off. I attend his classes, but I do not take care of his students or any of their peripheral needs. I simply direct the students back to him to handle their accounts, or any of their particulars.

That allows me on Monday to be back on duty refreshed and resourced. The blessings of a day spent practicing, walking, bike riding, hanging with my cats and talking with my brother are available for rippling outward to my students, clients and community. Staying balanced between being off and on contributes to my ability to serve in this capacity for as long as possible.

How is your balance between being off and on? Which do you need more of? Ki to Happiness has rebalanced with the necessary time off and is ready to be back on again.
