Spring Sunshine

Right on time, the sunshine returned for spring equinox. I celebrated with a ritual of releasing the challenges of winter and planting sunflower seeds for love, harmony and beauty. In the afternoon, I sat in the sun a while as I talked with my friend on the phone.

Soon I will see my friend, as she will visit me while I am with my mom. Further preparations are underway as our new cleaning person took over for our usual cleaner who is on pregnancy leave. Getting everything in place for my departure with every intention of returning to Spring’s renewal.

How did you welcome spring? What seeds have you planted? Ki to Happiness looks forward to the planed seeds germinating and growing toward the Sun.

Spring Equinox

Today we welcome spring, astronomically. Light and dark are in equal balance as we turn towards the newness of growth and possibility. Many cultures observe this as the true beginning of the new year, in keeping with agricultural societies.

Hatha Yoga means sun-moon union, referring to balancing two main channels of energy in the body related to being receptive and active. We yogis attend to this balance all through the year with alternate nostril breathing. Equinox makes that easy, whereas maintaining that balance all through the year requires intention and daily practice.

How is your Balance? What helps you find Balance? Ki to Happiness stays dynamically balanced throughout the year with Hatha Yoga.

Seasonal Transition

Winter’s chill brought opportunities for hibernation and reflection. Lessons learned offer blessings as Spring arrives. We stand balanced between the two as the light and dark shift dominance.

As a 10-year-old, I expressed this in the following haiku.

Winter Icicles

Thaw, melt and are forgotten

Followed by Beauty

My elder self applauds this wisdom, still applicable on many levels.

What wisdom did you glean as a child? Does it still hold? Ki to Happiness hugs her inner child with her Higher Self, embracing that which stands the test of time.

Making Plans

Today’s new moon gives us a chance to make plans. This Friday, Mercury will go direct which may allow those plans to move forward gracefully. Transportation, communication, and electronics all may be able to support the plans in becoming manifested.

These energies have given me what I need to begin making plans for Spring travel. I have booked my ticket, and made all arrangements for visiting my mother while she faces her medical issues. One day at a time, perhaps these energies will help her heal on all levels.

Have you been waiting to make plans? Do you start to feel those energies shifting? Ki to Happiness rides the waves of energy with conscious intention toward peace.

St.s Patrick and Gertrude

Today we observe the celebration day for Saint Patrick as well as Saint Gertrude. As an Irish descendent who loves cats, my altar is full of symbolic veneration for both of them. Green shamrocks line our pathway as feral cats dash in and out of their feeding station on our deck.

There’s no need for Guinness or shenanigans. Instead, I offer the simple Irish prayer gifted to me by my friend as I sip Irish breakfast tea. Cabbage and potatoes later.

What culture do you descend from? What’s the best part of your lineage to uphold?Ki to Happiness wears green and feeds cats as clients and classes continue.

Winter’s End

As we come into this last week of winter, massive storms are brewing across our country. We have already experienced the beauty and the force of the storms as we send them eastward. I’m paying close attention as it affects my travel potential, as well as my family and friends in the Midwest.

Our mildness allowed me to take a long walk on my day off. My packing and scheduling is proceeding. My higher guidance has me continuing to stay here as my brother tends to my mother, and she prepares for her next steps towards health.

What benefits did this winter bring for you? As the season ends, how are you transitioning? Ki to Happiness layers up for all transitions, aligning soul, mind and body with yoga practices.

Mom’s Home

My brother picked up my mom from the hospital yesterday and brought her home. She’s on the mend. As the path forward becomes clearer, I will go to her.

This is when the expression “one day at a time” comes in handy for all of us. Fortunately, we all align with it and have practiced it together and apart for years. We each have our own gratitude practice which also binds us together in our shared humanity.

What practices do you share with your family of origin? Despite differences, what binds you together? Ki to Happiness is grateful for all that unites in peace.

Pi Day

Today’s date of 3.14 is celebrated as pi day in observance of the significance the number represents. To those nerds in the know, “math is God” and numbers speak their own wisdom. Numerology studies that wisdom and teaches us that the One is in all things, numbers included.

Whether you are into math, numbers, or the wisdom in all things, it could be a good day to eat pie. Some will be having pi reciting contests.

3.14159265359…is a good beginning.

Do you see wisdom in numbers? What numbers are serious for you, perhaps repeatedly showing up in your life? Ki to Happiness counts like a yogi: one, one, One…

Snow Day

I awaken to the snow falling, and plenty on the ground. Local predictions indicate we are likely to continue to have snow until 10 AM. Well, our city may be temporarily paralyzed, Hatha Yoga Center continues to offer a safe space for conscious movement.

It takes me back to my childhood in the Midwest. A few snow days were padded into the school schedule, which always meant there could be an unexpected delight in the winter. Sledding, ice-skating, or simple hibernation could replace reading writing and arithmetic which offered its own education in the wonders of nature.

Did you grow up with snow days? Can you welcome the surprises of nature? Ki to Happiness sits inside her snow globe view in gratitude and remembrance.

Big Little Things

Yesterday‘s wind storm had our power flickering during my evening classes. I could barely prepare for a possible outage with all the efforts regarding my mom‘s process. I’m grateful for the little things that are truly big like the convenience of having power this morning.

Emotionally exhausted from waiting and complications with communication, I took a second bath before teaching. I made myself an extra cup of decaf Earl Grey tea and swallowed some immune support herbs to revive. Together with some sweet cat time, yoga practice and our neighborhood walk, I’m evermore grateful for all the big little things.

What little things are really big in your life? Can you focus on them and release the rest? Ki to Happiness gives the little things a big energy hug.
