Ritual Ride

After my labor of love on Labor Day, we took our ritual bike ride with our friends. The light rain and clouds cleared as we arrived at Matthew’s Beach. The weather held all the way for our Thai dinner and return home.

We enjoyed one another’s company, the great outdoors, ducks, geese, eagles, and the many Seattles we drove thru. Back home, the cats wanted dinner, and the studio space needed to be reset for regular classes. Overall, it was a memorable ritual ride, as we make plans for next year already.

How did you observe Labor Day? Has it resourced you for further labor today? Ki to Happiness has more loving memories with which to serve, practice and teach.

2004 Graduate

Getting set up for my morning class, I looked out the window and I saw a familiar gait. Walking out to greet a community member from long ago, my eyes softened began to tear up. As we embraced, she said hers were, too.

We entered the studio together and I introduced her to those present as a former graduate who studied with us on Guam and Bali. She said she graduated from our Yoga Teacher Training program in 2004. As class progressed, the years disappeared into the timeless practice of Hatha Yoga.

What makes time disappear for you? What practices bring you present? Ki to Happiness stays present with timeless practices.

Big Brother

Today is my big brother‘s birthday. To celebrate I posted a picture of him as a little one on my Facebook reel. It’s my favorite picture of him holding up an old telephone receiver.

We talk weekly on our cell phones now. We do so to continue to coordinate our supportive efforts with our dear mother. In this way we continue the family legacy of our maternal grandmother having worked for Bell telephone 100 years ago.

What family legacy do you continue? Which part have you let go of? Ki to Happiness stays in touch and remembers those who’ve gone before us, building a network that allows us to do so readily.

RIP Gloria Steinem

At 92, this global influencer has departed our Earthly realm. May she rest well, having served humanity to her fullest capacity. She leaves us to continue in her stead.

My mother and I took the bus in 1980 to attend the women’s March in Chicago where Gloria Steinem presided over us all, similarly clad in white to present unity. We simply wanted equal rights to men. Great progress and setbacks have occurred, so we march on.

Do you believe in equality? Are you experiencing it yet? Ki to Happiness is an agent of equality, unity and integration of bodymindspirit.

Taking Responsibility

In my two private sessions yesterday I worked with good men. They take responsibility for themselves and their shortcomings. In doing so, both are making progress on their respective paths.

When students or students fail to take responsibility for themselves, they don’t make progress. Projecting authority outward, they may blame the teacher or therapist for not “fixing” them. The fix is self responsibility, honesty and consistence in appliying steady and temperate effort on one’s chosen path.

Are you willing to take complete responsibility for yourself?Honestly, how consistent are you on your path? Ki to Happiness is able to respond to the nudges from her internal Authority with diligence.

RIP Wendell Berry

May the great humble poet farmer, Wendell Berry rest in peace after his 92 years on this Earth. Perhaps free to roam energetically in the mystery, he is able to join in the Peace of Wild Things. He’s shown us the way through despair as his legacy.

Many need his words now. Taking his gentle counsel, we push back from the screens, the news, the politics and lay down on the ground. Letting the creatures, rocks and plants of our planet show us how to live, we reconnect ourselves to Nature and naturally less desperate.

What will your legacy be? What do you do when you feel desperate? Ki to Happiness reconnects with Nature outdoors, or on the yoga mat.

Ber Months

Welcome September! We head into the Ber months with sunshine and bounty. I whomped up some fabulous food from all the students’ gifts from their gardens to celebrate.

The scent lingered as I taught my 10 am class without any complaint from those gathered. I put up some of the summer blessings to brighten SeptemBer, OctoBer, NovemBer and DecemBer. Bob and I enjoyed some to conclude August well nourished and grateful.

Do you look forward to the Ber months? What blessings from the summer will you take with you? Ki to Happiness takes beet green, cherry tomatoes, tomatillos and basil together with the warmth of our generous community into autumn.

Sunshine Smoothies

After Bob’s classes yesterday, we sat out on the deck and had smoothies with Daniel. Soft sun warmed the air as we sipped our lemon banana blend. We talked about our families and the events of the summer as it comes to a close.

As today is the last day of August, we celebrate each golden moment of warmth and light. This summer has been good to us, our families and friends, and HYC. We look forward to the changing seasons and gifts each shift brings.

How good has August been to you? What do you look forward to in September? Ki to Happiness loves 4 seasons, and the blessings from each.

Puddles and Bubbles

We had a great outing with our family at the zoo. Our son picked us up from HYC as class assembled. His cousin and her husband together with their three year-old joined us inside the entrance.

We talked and walked as the day went from sprinkles to clouds into sunlight. Little Nora especially loved her flamingo bubble wand gift. Splashing in puddles and blowing bubbles delighted us all even more than lions, gorillas and giraffes.

What delights you and your family? When’s the last time you went to the zoo? Ki to Happiness loves talking and walking in nature especially with Family.
